Weather Stick

Invented by the Abenaki Indians of the Northeast to help predict incoming storms, weather sticks bend down when wet weather approaches and bend back up to give an all clear for warm and sunny days. And yes, it really does work! Traditionally made from debarked branch of a balsam pine tree, these sticks have a deflection rate (how much they move to indicate the weather) of around 7-9 inches between wet weather and very dry. How does it work? This is a topic of some debate, but humidity is thought to be the main determining factor.

Put one of these up today, and be prepared for your next outdoor excursion!
